Germany — a major advocate of unrestricted world trade — is second only to the USA in combined exports and imports. Among Germany's key exports: telecommunications equipment. No surprise, there. Germans themselves have one of the world's most advanced telecommunications systems — one that is served by networks of fiber-optic cable, coaxial cable, microwave radio relay service, and domestic satellites. And, yes: Cellular telephone service is widely available.
